The Blues, explained

Indigo is ice,
tingling to touch.
               Musty as frost,
               shaped and sculpted.
Center of attraction
in a quiet cave.

Azure is a silky drink,
sleek and savored.
               Sweet, but not cloying,
               elegant as crystal.
It laps the tongue
in a single tremulous note.

Sapphire is galactic,
emitting noble light.
               Too distant to taste.
               A wondrous mystery.
Its frenetic hum
an unsettling soundtrack.

Periwinkle is a clown,
an eccentric artist.
               It tap-dances a tune,
               begs for an audience.
Comical steps echoing
in a sly smile –

An unspoken blessing
for itself and its cousins,
The Blues.
