Family Lines

From mini cameras to ice cream cones
Summers littered with park visits and water days
To awkward silence and feeling alone
To sitting five feet away, yet a million miles away

Time moved far too quickly
Stealing away the iron locks of familial bonds
Hugs and kisses turned screaming
Silent car rides and lists of wrongs

Sometimes I wish that I could go back in time
Give myself a hug and tell her
Life isn’t all lemons and limes
And remember that nothing lasts forever

Hold on to the ones you love or you might lose grasp of them
Hold on to yourself, or you might lose your head
