Tween

I am tired of being in
be"tween".

Tired of being told
"too young".

Tired of being too short,
too tall.

Tired of being too shy,
too loud.

Tired of being between
young and old,
vintage and new.

Tired of having to
choose.

Between here and now and
later.

Between culture and
counter culture.

Between "trendy" and
"Is that what your wearing?"

Between cliques and
friends.

The never ending cycle of
"tween".

So, this is for those with no voice,
caught between 10 and 12.

Those neither friendless nor
foe.

Those between popular and
nerd.

Those who dream, wish, and
compare.

Those with no rhythm, no
rhyme.

For those few but
mighty.

The invisible and elusive
"tween".

So I wish you safe
travels, dear friend,

Between childhood and
teen.

And, oh, do I feel for
you

Dear Tween.
