Skies and Beyond

Skies overcast hold me down in place

Confining me to what I cannot erase

The sky’s the limit that’s what they say

But is it really when locked far away

Even a clear night sky is an empty pit

ready to swallow me in a split

Yet shall I break through these guarding bars

To let myself fly into the blinding stars

The night sky suddenly vast and endless

Beckoning me with twinkling eyes

Blissful freedom coarses through

The very veins once taut with fright

But lest I lose to infinity and beyond

A string attached to the pillars of my past

Will keep me rooted to the sturdy ground

As I grow towards open skies at last

Branching out to reach the space beyond
