For lack of confidence

The door creaks
Gentle steps
The music fades
First stretch
The girl speaks
Heart stops
And I’m hers.

The arms raise
Breathe in
The body falls
Breathe out
The girl turns
Breath stops
And I’m hers.

She flows
I follow
She guides
I swoon
She smiles
I notice
And I’m hers.

She beckons
I stumble
She calls
I fall
She waits—
I pause—
And she’s his.

The room empties
Lights dim
The heart sighs
Time to go
The girl leaves
Silence stays
And she’s gone.
