Angel's Promise

A response to Angel White’s art exhibit, presented at the Conley Art Gallery, October 23, 2008

Remnants of tires, and the
broken playground swings
hanging from chains.

Faded pictures and memories;
stuck to worn tread and seats,
of Angel and family.

Unhappy memories settled
within broken glass and road
debris fragmented along streets.

Bits and pieces of her heart
scattered among the asphalt,
collected in sewers and gutters.

Childhood innocence and
dreams of happiness, spill
across unknown highways.

Resolution comes from
the settling of dust, and
understanding the cycle

of life is a choice.
Angel’s choice is a
promise to be happy.
