Fear of Love

How do you fear love without knowing its true meaning?
Have you experienced its faithfulness, received its unselfish feelings?
It’s complicated you say, too painful, and at times has been misleading.
I say love is understanding, soothes away your pain, and brings you healing.
It’s unconditional, never bound by restrictions, inspired by your affection
Looks beyond the physical, and embraces your imperfections
Looks into your heart, intimately searching for your soul’s reflection.
It’s never a boastful, prideful, or self-seeking attraction
Doesn’t break down with the biggest mistake or minor infraction.
Delights in selfless giving, rejoices in your happiness and satisfaction.
Love defines itself beyond your most complex description but brings you peace of mind
It’s a new passion for life, it’s comfort like no other, It’s beauty beyond any other kind.
So how do you fear love without knowing its true meaning?
Have you experienced its faithfulness, received its unselfish feelings?
True love is everlasting, a connection beyond its own time
Patiently waiting for your trust, patiently waiting for you to let go and put your fear aside.
I get it,
I understand love's unfaithful relationship with you
I've been there before, I know the feeling.
The countless nights crying out for her favor
The many arguments, the lying, the cheating, the stealing
Of your hope for something everlasting.
I know those many disappointments heartaches and pain
But no one ever said you can have the sunshine first without the rain.
See it's not love that is a mirage
But fear disguising itself in this facade
Telling you that love doesn't exist
Because she's left you with this void, craving for more
Insists that she'll do it again if she's done it once before.
How did fear overcome love and become so powerful?
The moment real love is here and wanting to stay
You distance yourself, almost ready to walk away.
See, she's here hoping and ready to connect
But yet fear has you reject the possibility of her.
So who's really to blame here?
Is it love or is it fear?
