In the time of plenty

In the time of plenty
there was “never enough.”
She was not content
with her superfluous stuff.

In the time of less
she learned to “make do,”
like eras before as
her ancestors knew.

In the time of plenty
she was on the go.
She did not sit still
or let her mind flow.

In the time of less
she had to be still.
She had time to ponder,
pretty hours to fill.

In the time of plenty
she was unaware:
her existence was fragile;
her circumstance rare.

In the time of less
she sacrificed more,
rationed and shared,
as in ages before.

The time of less
made her see life anew.
It gave her a yearning
to speak what is true.

Her mind was unhindered;
her epiphany born -
her plenty was empty -
a reason to mourn.

A chance to change,
to transform, redefine,
to cling to salvation,
posterity, peace of mind.
