The Sea

I am too afraid to
Look at the sea, alone
It is too dark
Too blue
Too white
It is too strong.
It enters me
And hollows me out
Emptying me of warmth.
I can only
Look at the sea
When someone I love
Is with me.

The sea,
It fills me with memories,
Feelings of
Love I lost,
Great love,
Love I have lived
Without,
Love I do not have.
I need someone to soften
The jagged, rocky edge,
The churning,
The unstoppable surge,
The coldness and blue of it,
Filling everything
Yet emptying me out.

I can only look
At the sea
With someone I love
