I Saw You There

I SAW YOU THERE, ON THE STAIRS, WITH TWO PRETTY, RED RIBBONS IN YOUR HAIR,

HIGH CLASS YOU WERE, AMONGST THE REST, BUT YOUR EYES HELD A GHOSTLY GLARE,

A CHESS PIECE IN HAND, A BOARD LAID AT A STEP,

YOU WERE PLAYING BY YOURSELF, BECAUSE YOUR PAST CHALLENGERS GOT BORED AND LEFT,

UNKNOWING, YOUNGER, GULLIBLE ME TAPPED YOUR LONELY SHOULDER AND ASKED IF I COULD JOIN THEE,

NOTHING WOULD HAVE POSSIBLY PREPARED ME FOR THIS TYPE OF THIRD DEGREE,

INTELLIGENT, WE BOTH WERE, USING PATTERNS AND TRYING TO DECIPHER THE OTHER GIRL,

HOWEVER, I WAS SMART IN A DIFFERENT WAY, AND THAT FILLED YOU WITH GLEE,

A NEW TOY TO USE, A NEW TOY TO HAVE FUN WITH, A NEW TOY WHO INSTEAD OF PLAYING MORE, DECIDED TO PLEA

BECAUSE WHILE WE PLAYED THIS GAME OF CHESS, I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GIRL WHO WON AGAINST ME ALAS,

THIS TIME, YOU WERE THE ONE WHO GOT

BORED AND DECIDED TO LEAVE.
