Down in Georgia

I woke up this morning,
Head’s just turning.
Even tho I ain’t suppose ta’,
I been thinking about Georgia.
Trees in the sunlight,
It can be so bright,
Like the weather in Florida.
I been thinking about Georgia

Even tho I’ve cried my tears and spent so many years in
Savannah, you still cross my mind.
In this California sunlight.
Even tho I left my home aback,
I know I’ll be back.
To that small city I proposed ta’.
I’m still thinking about Georgia.

Atlanta where you been you know you’ve always been our friend.
Georgetown you’re more of a daughter.
Ha, just a small part of Georgia.
Golfing on Augusta Carolina line,
Athens music so mighty fine.
Although I’m in California I’ve been wondering about Georgia.

Soul food found everywhere.
Black updos in our sublime hair.
Church days stepping in ya’ Sunday’s best.
Don’t come down south if you’re not ready for this.
High school bands can act a fool, always for the culture too.
For the history that it’s grown from I’ve been thinking Georgia

I woke up this morning
Head’s just turning
Even though I ain’t suppose ta’,
I been thinking about Georgia.
Trees in the moonlight,
It can still be so bright,
Like the weather in Florida.
I been thinking about Georgia
Savannah built from my bones.
You will always be my home.
I’ll be back like I told ya,
To that little city in Georgia.
