Reflection

I wish I could reconnect
Just say "Hi, how are you?"
And give an honest response
Not the automatic "I'm fine"

"Who are you?" I wonder
Staring at the stranger before me

Your blank eyes reveal nothing
Your frowning lips can't even
Manage a breath and
Your measured movements are that
Of a puppet's but

I guess you just don't have the
Time for me anymore
You're too busy making faces at
screens to bother with me

There is a barrier between us and
I don't know how to smash it

I wish I could peel back your skin
So that I may uncover
The mystery that lies beneath
The layers of flesh

Reveal the hardware that
Controls the emotionless
Machine

And maybe then
I'll be able to reconnect with
The woman in the mirror
