How It Ended

The leaves began to fall
At a slow but steady pace
Similar to way the tears
Fell down her face

She missed his smile
And the feel of his skin
She tried to forget
But her pain trapped her in

As hard as he tried
He just couldn't seem to concentrate
As his mind wandered
And reminded him of her face

The curls in her hair
The spark in her eyes
All were reminders
Of a painful goodbye

They missed each other
And tired of their pain
But knew because of how it ended
Things would never be the same
